Women who need plus size bras will all tell you, it isn’t easy to find the right one. Too small and you spill out in all directions, not a good look. Too big and you don’t have the support you need.
Doing a few simple things will make that search easier. First, it’s very important to get an up to date fitting. Having children, weight gain or loss, or just plain time will change your breast size and shape. And ladies, don’t settle for the wrong size. It may be easier and less expensive, but you won’t look your best. As for those bargain bras, settling for a less expensive bra will cost you in the end. Often you have to compromise fit and comfort, and the bra just won’t hold up, pun intended.
Even though you shouldn’t settle for a low quality, ill fitting bra, you don’t need to dress like the female warden in a bad “B” movie either. You can have both fit and style.
Now let’s talk about styles. What you are looking for depends on what sort of clothing you will be wearing over the bra and what sort of activities you will be performing. The basic styles best for plus sized ladies include:
Full support bras: These offer maximum support and coverage, but can be utilitarian in style. This is a good choice for the sensible day, such as a day at the office.
Balcony and demi bras: These can be great choices for low cut blouses and dresses, but be warned. They do not offer the support you’ll need if you have heavy or fluid breasts.
Long line bras: These are a good choice if you want more back support or would like a slimming effect. Some long line bras come in strapless styles which offer the necessary support for large breasts.
Minimizer bras: A good choice for those who want the slimming appearance of smaller breasts. I like these styles for tight fitting t-shirts. Sports bras: These styles hold the breasts close to the rib cage to minimize movement of the breast during exorcise, a must for active ladies of all sizes. These come in pull over, back closure, and front closure models. Underwire bras: A rigid wire under the cups, either metal or plastic, provides an extra shot of support but can be uncomfortable.
